Privacy, and how we handle data

Your records stay yours

The software runs on your own computers. No Winterforge server holds your files.

If you join your PCs into a Winterforge network, each PC shares only what its owner switches on, encrypted, and only with your own PCs.

Winterforge claims no ownership of your documents, records or the plain-text files it writes for them.

Turn on a cloud AI and the parts of files it reads go to that provider, on your own account. The software never sends your files to Winterforge.

What the software sends by default

No account, no telemetry, no analytics on your records, and no documents leave your computer.

One exception: when it starts, Winterforge asks downloads.winter-forge.com whether a newer version or a newer Alberta OHS law edition is out. That request carries no identifier and no file names. Our download server records the time, your connection's address, the approximate location that address maps to, and the program's name. To stop it, switch off Settings, then Version, then Check when Winterforge starts.

Errors are kept in a log on your own computer. A support file is only made when you click Save a support file, and it only goes anywhere if you send it.

Cloud AI is never accidental

If you turn on a cloud AI, you'll see which provider, what is sent, whose account and key are used, and that the provider's terms apply. No one should be surprised by an AI bill.

AI can be wrong. Check anything that matters against the file itself.

The contact form is sent through Cloudflare, which hosts this site, to our mailbox at Proton Mail. It collects your name, business, email and what you type.

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Fonts are served from this site, not from Google. There are no analytics or advertising trackers.

The download page, downloads.winter-forge.com, is only for people we've invited. Each download records the email you signed in with, the time, your connection's address and its approximate location, and sends Paul an email saying so.

Service work

Support and setup happen with your consent and a stated purpose. No unattended access unless separately agreed.

Files are copied only when a job needs it, tracked, and deleted when it's done — you get a signed note saying so.

If any step would send samples of your files to a cloud AI, you'll know first and can say no.

Your API keys stay yours. Demos use fictional data.

What you're responsible for

Backups, device security, who has access, what you store, whether cloud AI is appropriate for your records, reviewing AI output, and your own industry obligations.

If something goes wrong

We stop the exposure, preserve the facts, work out what was affected, tell you, get privacy guidance, and fix the process.
